Healing Habits
Kenta Tsukamoto is as strong as the vegetables in his garden, though he insists that wasn’t always the case. When his physical therapist suggested he start volunteering at the local community garden, he was under the impression that gardening was a hobby for grandmothers. It didn’t take long for him to appreciate the healing nature of plants and how empowering it feels to eat something you grew from seeds.

Tenderness as Strength
In gardening, habit is the general structure of a plant. When Kenta’s therapist told him he should “strengthen his habit via a gardening habit,” he was skeptical and pessimistic. However, now Kenta defines himself as a gardener. He loves that he gives back to his community via the edible co-op program and teaches middle schoolers how to grow their own backyard gardens. That said, it takes a lot of inner growth for him to grow comfortable with his nurturing role and he still sometimes struggles.

Diversity
Cultivating Habits takes place in a fictional Northeast coastal town in the United States called Fernweh (pronounced Fern - Vee), with a strong LGBTQIA+ and diverse community. Toadhouse Games has reached out to the communities we aim to represent to ensure we do so in an accurate and respectful manner. We also hire cultural consultants and sensitivity readers.
